STEP ONE: IDEATION
We started by meeting a few times to gain a basic understanding of the project scope and the client’s goals.
We asked a lot of questions in this stage, including:
- Why was this redesign happening?
- What they were hoping to accomplish with a redesign?
- How would this logo fit into their existing brand system?
- Are there examples of logos they like in their field and why they like them?
STEP TWO: RESEARCH
Once we determined the project scope, we moved on to the research phase. No design exists in a vacuum, so we researched larger iconic brands and marks in the collegiate sports world that our client and creative team highlighted in brainstorming sessions. This gave us direction as we moved onto the next phase of the project.
STEP THREE: SKETCHING
In this step, we aimed to be broad. We put as many ideas as possible on paper, then took the best of those ideas and created digital rough drafts. Once on screen, we were able to see which ones read best, and refined those for the first round of feedback.
STEP FOUR: INITIAL DRAFTS
Here, we presented the client with a few of the best drafts. At this stage they selected the option that they felt best suited their needs, and gave us feedback on ways to improve it. The goal here was to deepen our understanding of their needs, and to adjust our direction accordingly before presenting a final version.
STEP FIVE: REVISIONS
We refined the chosen draft according to client feedback. This stage of the process varies by client and contract, but we always enjoy getting the details pinned down and perfected for the final product.
STEP SIX: FINAL DESIGN
The final product resulted in a throwback design combining a bit of the old with the new.
